Ed Tulloch, a longtime NEOC member, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014
Ed Tulloch was the quiet man with the big smile. Always willing to discuss the course or just chat at the results lines. It might have been at an “away” trip to one of the Scottish 6 Day Events, (in the ‘80s), that his name and face really connected with me. He and his wife Mary were with the American group exploring the Scottish experience.
At A-Meets, Ed was one of the go-to people to help at the start. We missed him at the start line at UNO’s A-Meet last fall as his health had not been good for a while.
Ed (on right in photo) and Kathy are very happy to see Peter G. make good on his promise to bring some sustenance to the start crew after his run at the Troll Cup at Pawtuckaway in ’94.
Ed was a traditionalist. You would always see him in the old-style, green NEOC uniform. Black tights and polypro tops were not his style, and he stayed true to his last event.
The U.S. Relay Championships are being held as part of a two-day meet on April 26 & 27 in Newark , Delaware (a 5 - 6 hour drive from Boston). NEOC has often done well at this type of event in the past, and we hope to enter several teams. The event is structured to encourage participation by all ages and ability levels – you do not have to be a “serious” orienteer to do this!
The relays themselves are on Saturday April 26; on Sunday, there will be a one-day A-meet. Each relay team has 3 members, and there are three different divisions: 3-point, 6-point and 9-point teams. Points are assigned as follows:
