Beaver Brook Reservation, Waltham, MA May 14, 2017 Meet Directors: Pia Webb & Jim Crawford
Today's event at Beaver Brook Reservation was a combined event that featured sprint courses for our “regular” seasoned orienteers as well as being the second event in the Boston Youth Orienteering Series. Beaver Brook is a small park with open fields, a merry stream, and just the right amount of woods to make it fun to orienteer without the risking of getting too lost. You could let loose even the younger runners on their own knowing that they most likely would make it back safely.
The weather gods were not with us this time, but there were still almost 30 kids and teenagers as well as 15 adults that braved the cold and rain to look for flags in the woods. A special congratulations to Frido, who brought his friends out orienteering to celebrate his 7th birthday! There was also a group of students from the Community Day Charter Public School in Lawrence, who had so much fun at our first youth series event that they came back with a group this time too. Everybody returned from the woods soaked and with wet feet today, but most went out for a second and many even for a third course so we think they still must have enjoyed it!
The next event in the Youth Series will be at Danehy Park in Cambridge on Sun Jun 4th. We are keeping our fingers crossed for better weather and hope to see you all there! Each event in the Youth Series is a free standing event so you can come even if you didn’t participate in the first event. Instruction and coaching will be available for runners of all levels.
Thanks to all the Youth Series coaches and technical staff, as well as the NEOC crew and our families.
