We had ~120 people come to enjoy a true indian summer day at Prospect Hill today. With this warm weather, the ground was really dry and the marshes had all but disappeared. The hills were still as steep as always though...
It was really good to see people who became members this year, who after a few events are moving on to Yellow and even Orange couses. Interestingly the Tan course was very popular today, so thank you Michael for suggesting that we include it. The Green course had the highest number of starts with 39 runners. A number of people took the time to chat after their run, orienteering is a great way to meet new people and the only place where everyone will understand if you say you were slightly "mislocated" at some point, we've all been there...
Saturday was also my first attempt at designing courses and I am super-grateful to Pelle who patiently helped me over the last few weeks to improve on my first draft. I learned for example that designing courses at home has definitely some limitations... Pelle also took care of all the equipment which was a huge help. Thanks to everyone who commented on the courses.
We had many helpers on the day: Thanks to Marcia Steere, who managed the registration during the whole event with support from Bo Nielsen and David Kehs (Bill Binette and Bob Dangel had offered to help but in the end were not needed); Jim Paschetto, Jim Crawford and Ken Menzies at the computer; Rafael Frutos Fernandez and Suzanne Wenger for picking up the controls (twice!). Finally I wanted to thank the city of Waltham for allowing us to use the park and Erin Bump at CBRE New England, who kindly allowed us to use the car park on Saturday.
Found: A pair of reading glasses, black frames with black neck-cord. To claim, contact the Webmaster.
