Scout-O.org is the Scout Orienteering section of the New England Orienteering Club.

Here you'll find information on upcoming orienteering events, results and photos from past events, and links to other Scout-O websites.

Scout troops and families are welcome at all New England Orienteering Club (NEOC) events.

Thanks for your interest. We hope you can join us for Fall Scout-O, Oct. 24-25, 2020.

Scouts BSA, Girl Scouts, Venture Scouts, Webelos Cub Scouts, and other youth groups are invited to a day of adventure where they learn and practice map and compass skills, with the option to work on orienteering-related badge requirements. This event is organized by the all-volunteer, non-profit New England Orienteering Club (NEOC) to introduce youth to map and compass skills and the sport of Orienteering.

When: Saturday, April 18, 2020 (approximately 9:30 AM-3:00 PM)
Where: Hale Reservation (80 Carby St, Westwood, MA 02090)
Cost: $7 per person
Registration deadline:  March 29, 2020

Youth groups (must have at least two adults) will arrive Saturday morning between 9:30 and 11 AM, pick up their packets, and go out on their 1st course (with an instructor, if requested at registration). Youth (and adults) will be able to learn orienteering skills such that they will be able to orienteer through the woods on their own. Additional orienteering courses at 3 different levels will be available to practice orienteering skills, with the last groups going out at 2 PM. You may do as many courses as you wish prior to the courses closing at 3 PM.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: All youth groups must pre register and pre pay ($7.00 per participant) by March 29, 2020.

Enrollment limited to 400 participants. Note: This event may fill to capacity before the registration deadline. Early registration encouraged.

REFUNDS: Because the courses are preprinted on your maps, we cannot give refunds after the registration deadline.

Waiver of Liability: Each participant must bring a signed Waiver of Liability that should be brought to the meet and handed in at check in. Youth that arrive without Waiver signed by their parent or guardian will not be allowed to participate.

WE GO RAIN OR SHINE. Maps are in plastic bags. Participants should dress for the weather. Only a severe weather alert may cancel the event. It’s up to the unit leader’s discretion whether to participate or not when the weather is less than ideal.

Start Program Times: Older youth (Scouts BSA and Cadette/Senior Girl Scouts) are encouraged to select 9:30 or 10:00 AM arrival. Younger youth (Cub Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts) are encouraged to select 10:30 or 11:00 AM. When time slots become full, your troop will be given a different time to report for program.

Departure Times: Courses close at 3 PM, but you may leave at any time.

Concession: Probably not (Permit required from Board of Health). Bringing your own food is suggested.

Parking: Off street parking is limited. Car-pooling is encouraged.                                                             

Leader Training: All group leaders are encouraged to attend a free and open Leader Training Clinic held 3 weeks prior to the meet. Prepare yourselves for orienteering, and be better able to help your group.

Help Out: Scout-O events are entirely run by volunteers and we need your help. All troops with more than 10 registrants are expected to provide at least 1 person for at least two hours to help with parking/set-up/registration/starts/finishes/instruction/ or cleanup. We will also need a troop of energetic youth to help pick up courses at the end of the day. We also may need help with parking early in the day. Assignments to be made with the confirmation.

Scouts BSA: can complete First Class requirement #2 (orienteering) as well as many requirements for the Orienteering Merit Badge. Note: for requirement 8, Meet Planning, please contact the Registrar by March 29, 2020. An orienteering Merit Badge Counselor will be available for questions.

All Scouts are invited to a weekend of orienteering.  It will be a weekend of outdoor adventure as Webelos, Boy Scouts, Venture Scouts and Girl Scouts learn and practice map and compass skills as well as work on orienteering badge requirements.

When:  Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2020

Where:  Nobscot Scout Reservation, Sudbury MA

Saturday's program will be skill development, training and practice.  Scouts (and adults) will be able to learn orienteering skills such thay they will be able to compete in Sunday's competition regardless of prior experience.  Ample orienteering courses will be available for Scouts to practice their orienteering skills.

For first time orienteers, an experieced instructor from the New England Orienteering Club will be assigned to work with you and your group to help Scouts learn orienteering skills and pass badge requirements.

Sunday's program will be the annual New England Scout Orienteering Championship competition.  Scouts (as well as adults) will compete for tropies with other Scouts of the same gender and same rank or age group.  First, second, and third place trophies will be awarded for the best in each class.
