The third event in the Boston Youth Orienteering Series took place at Danehy Park in Cambridge, an open park with many ball fields and playgrounds to navigate around. It was a beautiful day with plenty of people out and around and a steady stream of kids joining the youth orienteering activities. There was also a sprint course offered for advanced runners.
We had a good mix of youth participating with quite a number from Cambridge, who had either learnt about navigation through the Navigation Games’ school programs or last week’s World Orienteering Day, or just stopped by when being in the park. There was a very speedy looking group of runners from the Needham Track Club and another from the running section of Cambridge Sports Union. Our favorite participant, though, was a tiny little 4-year old in a bike helmet, who got sucked in when scootering by with his nanny and who never wanted to quit doing the animal courses!
Nobody got lost, all had fun, and there were some very fast times on the different courses with winning times on the white and the yellow courses of only 9 minutes: Beat that if you can!

Each event in the Youth Series is a free standing event so you can come even if you didn’t participate in the first event. Instruction and coaching will be available for runners of all levels.
